DYNALP²: Sustainable Development at town level

2006-06-29

Within the framework of the project "Future in the Alps", experts have gathered exhaustive knowledge about sustainable development in the Alps. The implementation of this knowledge is the objective of the new project DYNALP2, that was launched by the "Alliance in the Alps", a network of local authorities.

Towns and Associations of Towns can submit projects that contribute to the sustainable development and the use of the knowledge from "Future in the Alps", a project of the International Commission for the Protection of the Alps - CIPRA. "Alliance in the Alps" promotes selected projects with a grant of 20,000 - 40,000 Euro, which towns must co-finance 50%. Overall, 500,000 Euro will be allocated.
The towns which are members of "Alliance in the Alps" can submit their ideas by 15 September. Documents and information about the tender can be seen at http://dynalp.alpenallianz.org/de/ausschreibung.
In terms of issues, the projects must deal with one of the following six key issues: "Regional Value Added", "Governance capacity", "Protected areas", "Mobility", "New forms of decision-making", "Policies and instruments". In the selection process, the international Jury will consider the sustainability of the project: who is best able to harmonize environmental, economic and social and cultural interests? Who has ideas that can be transported to other towns or regions and that can better gain the general public's attention about the issue of sustainability?
The projects in the towns are the core and the largest budget items of DYNALP². Another focus is common events such as workshops, excursions and international meetings. These will promote networking of the towns across the Alps and therefore make local knowledge available to everyone.
The DYNALP2 project will last over three years, from April 2006 until June 2009. The project is supported by the MAVA Foundation for Nature Protection in Switzerland.
